TWIOT: Adventures in Grilling

Me and the finished product
In lieu of writing about college football - plenty of other bloggers are doing that well enough right now - I figure I'll mark the end of the summer with grilling, one of the best things to do during the summer. Then again, some people leave the grills active year long. I can dig that. Anyway, today, I will take you through a journey of grilling a piece of meat for dinner tonight. Hope you enjoy the grill porn!

Here's the piece of meat in question, in its raw state. It is a piece of London broil. Not the "finest" cut of meat, but definitely a quality cut in a pinch.

Gotta put fork marks in it so the marinade takes.

What is this marinade I'm speaking of? Well, pictured here in its deconstructed form from the left to right, cumin, olive oil, sriracha sauce, soy sauce, Fish Eye cabernet sauvignon, paprika and onion powder. Red wine is quite handy as a beef marinade component. Only makes sense, because it usually pairs with dead cow.

In the bag for a couple of hours!

There she is, my grill. She's served me well this summer.

Just putting it on the grill.

Look at the grill marks beginning to form!

Here it is. Yes, it looks a bit well-done (it was medium-well), BUT I have a good excuse. My wife is pregnant and medium-well is about as rare as she can have it. Thus it's about as mooing as much as it can safely be.

Yes, beef pairs well with red wine, but you know what I paired it with? Iron Hill Quadrupel. Iron Hill is a local Philly brewery that brews all kinds of craft beers, including Zoo with Roy's So Cuttered Hoppy Wheat. Again, ZWR is living the dream, friends.

This is a beer faux pas, I know, but I wanted to use my German stein, dammit!

So, there's my photo blog detailing dinner. If it makes you hungry, then I've done my job!

US Ant! US Ant! View this picture and more!

Do you like independent wrestling, Chikara in specific? Do you appreciate good photography? Do you want to hang out with luminaries such as Bryce Remsburg, Ophidian and possibly myself? Then you're in luck! My shutterbug pal and fellow Chikaraphile Zia Hiltey will be putting her photography on display at Benna's Cafe in South Philly starting September 9th at 7:30 PM in DARK MATCH: An Espectactular Wrestling Themed Photo Show. It'll run through October 13th.

I posted a sampling of Zia's work, and I've actually used her photos on the blog before. Please go out and support her work, because she's cool beans. Plus, who knows whom you might see. Check it out if you're in Philly.

KANA Has a Sword

Photo Credit: SMASH Website, via John Hyperion

This may not mean a whole lot to you now, but KANA, set to make her US debut in October for both Chikara and SHIMMER, has a sword. For whatever reason, I just think there's something badass, sexy and whimsical about that picture all at the same time. Something about a joshi megastar in hipster glasses with a weapon she could use to destroy you (although she obviously doesn't need it) that just gets to me.

How Bryan Danielson Keeps His Muscle

Via his website

I've often wondered how Bryan Danielson is able to keep his muscle mass despite being a Vegan. I always assumed he took supplements or a cocktail of supplements along with eating a shit ton of legumes, peanut butter and tofu. Well, that could very well be the case, but apparently, Danielson has a legion of supplements that helps him keep muscle in lieu of meat. I guess I wasn't the only one who was curious about this. Here's the picture he posted on his site:

That's a lot of supplement

Yeah, and that's not even counting his protein powders. Impressive. And I thought I was doing good for myself with my men's multivitamin and fish oil pills. So yeah, that's how one helps keep muscle mass despite being on a Vegan diet.

Lucha Corgi!

I know I'm running a bit behind on feature entries, but the WWE chopping block threw me off, and then I went and drank beers, sang bad karaoke and watched the San Francisco Giants redefine sore loser at the Phils at the bar. Follow Friday, Power Poll and Trey Irby's favorite wrestlers will be up a little later, but to tide you over? HERE'S A PICTURE OF A CORGI WEARING A LUCHA MASK!

Via Matt Ufford/Warming Glow via F*ck Yeah! Corgis Tumblr

Corgis truly are magnificent beasts. By the by, if you like TV, and you like closing out your work week with slideshows featuring pictures and videos of corgis, then head on over to Warming Glow and put it in your Google Reader or RSS thingy. It's a solid read.

A Tale of Two Jimmies

Jimmy Rollins is having a nice bounceback year for the Phils, and to add onto that, he got his picture taken with Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka. Nice! However, given Snuka's history, you might wanna keep him away from the Phillies ball girls...

...low blow? Too soon?

The Tozawa Cake Is Not a Lie

Via his Facebook page

Just when you thought that Akira Tozawa couldn't get any awesomer...

Yes, that is his birthday cake. It's way more epic than your birthday cake is. Unless it's the meatloaf cake with mashed potato icing. In which case you win, but only barely. His birthday is today, so happy birthday, Japanese Mugatu Tozawa-san!

It's Clobberin' Time

Whenever CM Punk comes out for a match, he cups his hands to his mouth and shouts "IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME!" For those who don't know what that's a reference to, well, I'm not sure I want to know you it's the catchphrase of Ben "The Thing" Grimm, only the most awesome member of the Fantastic Four. Why am I saying this? Well, because cuckolding Triple H and being a voice for the voiceless members of the WWE Universe who want Zack Ryder on TV weren't the only things Punk was doing in San Diego ComiCon. He just tweeted this message, linking to this picture:

That was drawn by noted comic artist Josh Adams. It's pretty fucking awesome. Like, seriously fucking awesome. Like, if I wasn't having a kid in two months and didn't feel like changing my laptop wallpaper more than once before the end of the year, I'd totally make this my laptop wallpaper right now.

"Hollywood" Cole Hamels vs. CM Punk

I meant to post this last night or earlier today, but shit, I got so damn busy. But yeah, one of my favorite wrestlers posing with maybe my favorite player in baseball? Definitely gotta repost that pic. However, I'm pretty sure that it was all CM Punk's fault the Phils lost to the Cubs last night. I mean, Punk has had such great energy around him for his hometown, he submarined us! DAMN YOU!... not really.

Anyway, that belt is two-and-a-half years too late. Hamels deserved that kind of bling after he won both the 2008 NLCS and World Series MVP awards.

TMZ Posts Pics of Punk, Cabana and Steel

Via TMZ

Just when you thought that TMZ was only good for embarrassing wrestlers, they go and post pictures of CM Punk celebrating with his newly won title and two of his best friends in a really cool photo set. Punk, Colt Cabana and Ace Steel goof around with the Spinner Belt, and a couple of female fans join in. It's a really fun group of pics.

In a related note, I gained some respect for TMZ out of all this. At least they gave Punk equal time after being the ones to really break open the story of him using the homophobic slur in Australia. Granted, he deserved to be called out for it, but the fun stuff should be publicized too.

Two of My Favorite Women in Wrestling Ever, in One Picture

Epic.

What happens when Sara del Rey wrestles Portia Perez in New York state's 2CW promotion with Tammy "Sunny" Sytch as the guest referee? You get an epicly awesome picture of two of my favorite women ever in pro wrestling out of it. I'm sure Brandon Stroud will protest that Portia is nowhere to be found in that shot, but hey, she posted the match too at her blog, along with another picture of del Rey standing in front of a tiger cage.

This has been your requisite break from the CM Punk/Money in the Bank deluge of posting today. It'll resume shortly.

Weekend Wrap-Up: It's Punk's World

Sorry everyone, but to me, the only thing that happened this weekend was Money in the Bank, and I already wrote the review last night. In other news, CM Punk found a good home for the Spinner Belt:

The People's Log Flume

Dwayne Johnson's photo Splash Mountain- BRING IT ON!
Dwayne Johnson on WhoSay

So, The Rock recently visited Disney and went on Splash Mountain. You know those pictures that they take of you going down roller coasters and log flumes and such? Yeah, the above is Rocky's picture. It's pretty much the most epic amusement park ride picture in the history of the medium.

You jabronis might get sick of the People's Champion from time to time, but fuck man, I can never get sick of The Rock being The Rock.

Remember you can contact TH and ask him questions about wrestling, life or anything else. Please refer to this post for contact information. He always takes questions!
